Malika Laïchour Romane is an Algerian director, screenwriter, producer and researcher. Founder of the Rive Blanche production company, based in Algiers, she juggles creation, project support and academic research. A committed filmmaker, she is notably responsible for Khawa documentary exploring European aid during the war of independencewar of independence, as well as Burners (2011) and L’invité (2000), which deal with contemporary social realities. This dual perspective, historical and social, runs through all her work. At the same time, Malika Laïchour Romane is a doctoral student and researcher at the INHA (Institut National de l’Histoire de l’Art) in Paris, where she is working on the film archives of the Algerian war. This reflection on archive images feeds her artistic and educational approach.
In addition to her films, she plays a key role in the transmission of knowledge. In particular, she has accompanied young Algerian filmmakers as part of the Méditalents workshop
training initiative that supports emerging talent in the Mediterranean. Her pedagogical approach is based on sympathetic listening, while helping young filmmakers to structure their thoughts and build solid dossiers for production.

Narimane Mari is an Algerian director and producer renowned for her free, experimental approach to documentary filmmaking. Born in Algiers, she began her career in France before returning to directing, where she quickly made a name for herself with her singular vision, blending memory, imagination and sensitive exploration of reality. In 2013, her film “Loubia Hamra” won the Grand Prix at the FID Marseille. As a producer, Narimane Mari also accompanied Hassen Ferhani’s film “Dans ma tête un rond-point” (In my head, a traffic circle), which met with immense critical success internationally, becoming a benchmark for new Algerian documentaries.

Present at numerous international festivals (Berlinale, IDFA, Turin…), Narimane Mari is today a strong voice of independent documentary. As a NextDoc trainer, she will be bringing young Algerian producers her expertise in creative writing, free narration and strategies for positioning a film on the international scene. With a background straddling Algeria and the rest of the world, she will provide participants with concrete keys to defending their projects with funds, co-producers and platforms.
